Guiding Principles
At Art of Retreat, our guiding principles reflect the ethos and culture of our community. They are not mandates but shared values that shape our interactions and collective growth.
> Radical Participation
We are all leaders. Every participant is encouraged to create, teach, and engage fully. By sharing our time, skills, and ideas without expectation of reciprocation, we foster a vibrant and collaborative environment where no one is merely a spectator.
> Inclusion
We welcome and respect the stranger. We grow most in environments of diversity. The Art of Retreat creates a safe space where folks of all identities and ideologies can enrich one another.
> Curiosity
We bring a love for new things, an attitude of openness, and a beginner’s mind to exploring new ideas and possibilities. We value challenging conversations and the willingness to adapt and evolve our understanding.
> Collective Effort
Our strength lies in creative cooperation and collaboration. We commit to acting with respect, self-awareness, and a balance of reason and emotion, recognizing that our collective efforts drive our shared success.
> Leave no Trace
We respect the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavors, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.
> Free Sharing
We are the caretakers of our culture. As a community grown through free sharing, we believe the responsibility of spreading our culture lies with each and every one of us. All of us are caretakers of our culture – when the opportunity presents itself, we pass knowledge on. This is a non-commercial, decommodified space.
